Recent Projects - Complete Renevation of a Property
The views from this site overlook the Cheshire countryside from a raised elevation towards the Clwyd mountain range. It is a fantastic aspect however the existing property took no advantage of the views with the small windows to the front elevation.
The client's brief was to drastically modify the house so that the views could be enjoyed throughout the house.
The staggered two front elevations and majority of the rear of the building had to be demolished but this could not be started before erecting scaffolding and completely wrapping the house in reinforced polythene sheeting. This gave the exposed open elevations protection from the wind, which in theory could blow out the gable walls during rebuilding if not protected.
Temporary support was carefully put in place before the walls were demolished, new concrete and steel structural beams and windposts were sympathetically built into the new façade forming the openings for the huge new windows made from an extremely hard and durable hardwood called Jatoba which came from a managed and renewable source. The first floor windows to the front and rear fold and slide to completely open giving an unobstructed view of the countryside.
The entire upper floor was removed of walls and the roof structure supported and ceiling joists raised internally and panelled with decorative veneered plywood with a lighting system that shows off the large vaulted ceilings. The first floor was made into an open plan living room, dinning room and kitchen enjoying magnificent views throughout. The ground floor was made into master bedroom, guest room, WC, bathroom, utility and entrance foyer/hallway. Smoked glass doors maximised light with secret panelling corridor disguising wardrobe, guest room and WC doors. Under floor heating was installed throughout, a bespoke Ash staircase with glass a balustrade was built on site which cantilevered the across the hallway without the need for additional support using hidden steel framework internally.
This project was successfully completed using modern materials and construction technology generally unheard of in house building forming a superb contemporary home.
