Recent Projects - Extension of a Period Property
This project involved the extension and alterations of a period country home, which had previously had several extensions. However the earliest extension was of poor construction with little architectural merit. The architect detailed a scheme of improvement involving the demolition of the existing extension and extending using traditional materials for the façade whilst building beyond the current building regulations with regard to thermal insulation and efficiency.
A J Field Developments undertook the structurally challenging task of carefully demolishing the poorly built existing extension section by section temporarily supporting the building whilst rebuilding before the next section was demolished. A complex steel framework was threaded into the existing and new part of the building giving structural integrity to the house. The end gable of the house was rebuilt with a traditional handcrafted oak frame tower with architectural stonework corbelling and sills. Internally a bespoke new kitchen, bathroom utility/spare kitchen were fitted and living room formed. Dormer windows were introduced to the extended bedroom and bathrooms.
A J Field carried out this project over the winter period and although the client's only kitchen was in the main area of work we managed to maintain a working kitchen fixing temporary screening to keep the elements out and providing security throughout.
